Couch to 5K App

I swear... I am ALWAYS trying something new to help loose weight and keep in shape!
My friend Paige told me about this app and I thought I would download it and try it out!

Here is what it looks like when you go to the app store!
This is what your day looks like.
I started on day 2 on accident!  I didn't notice until I was done. Oops! So I did that day twice and then did day 3. Each time you complete a few days you get "badges" that go under the tab that says: WINS. The app recommends that you run 3 days a week. Also, you get to play your own music and it talks over your music . It tells you when to run or slow down and walk. I really enjoyed it because I needed help getting back into running. I really, really, REALLY, want to enjoy running. So, I feel like if I actually take my time and build myself up to running... it will make it fun!

I get Woman's Health Magazine and they shared 6 reasons why you should start running. Click HERE to see the article yourself. (They are NOT paying me to discuss this article with you.)

The 6 reasons are:
  1. It's so easy: ppbbbttt not for me) I have a deviated septum so I always feel like I can't get enough air in my lungs! :D
  2. Yet so hard!: Now we are talking! ;) What they mean is that it does such a good total body workout.
  3. Your knees with thank you.: Don't ask your chins, they may disagree!
  4. You'll stress less: I have a hard time with this one. I am stressing while I am running because I can't seem to breathe. However, it's all I am thinking about. So, I am not stressing about all my normal daily stresses. Then when I am done, I am in such a good mood!
  5. It can prevent diseases: And diseases are a big one in my family jeans.
  6. You'll probably live longer: Well, that sounds like a good idea to me! This just put an extra step in my running steps :)
Anyways! Wish me luck!!!

Owl Themed Classroom

I decided at the end of the year last year, that I was going to change my theme to OWLS! You won't believe how many owl themed things there are out there! I went shopping with my teacher friend Natalia, and couldn't believe the amount we found! We weren't even out looking for them! They found me. :)

These cuties were found at Kirkland and were on clearance!!
Another teacher friend found this shirt for me!!

So, I have began updating my things for my classroom. The first thing I did was make new center signs. I didn't want to make them "over colorful" because I know it can distract the students. I want them to be able to see what center they are at, read the sign, sit down, and get started. Here is what I made! I have linked this to my TPT site if you would like to purchase this for your classroom as well.

As I finish more items for my owl classroom, I will be sure to post! Make sure to follow my blog!

Have a wonderful Friday!

My Insperation!

Today I have to give a shout out to a blogger who has been putting the little "blog" bug in my ear!

Tanya at A+ Firsties!
Mrs. Dwyer's A+ Firsties

We began teaching at the same school when I first moved to Texas. She gave me wonderful reading center ideas, art skills, and more mentoring than I have had before. In return, I would give her technology lessons on PowerPoint, Mimio, and Microsoft Word.

She was always telling me to "tell her how to do it" and not show her how it's done. She caught on so quickly after showing it to her once and now, I am blown away with the products that she comes up with to share with other teachers.

She kept telling me to update my blog and make it more about the things I do for education. (You teachers know that we sure do a lot for our lessons!) Finally, I took the plunge and she has been so supportive!

I still have SO much to learn from and understand in "Blog-Land", but I know I have a great mentor and friend to follow in the footsteps off!

Thanks Tanya!!

Reading Fluency: Buddy Read

I am spending my summer taking classes to get my Master Reading Teacher Certification.
The other day we talked about fluency and shared ideas on how to help better the students fluency.
Just in case you didn't know:
"Fluency is characterized by rate and 'effortlessness' which students exhibit as they move through the text. Fluent readers understand text structure, use appropriate intonation, and have few interruptions." (Adams, 1990)

At my school, they graciously bought these awesome kits that have leveled stories and had them numbered for the student to use. (If it wasn't summer break and my classroom wasn't locked, I would show a picture right about now.) The are card stocked sheets with short poems or stories. On them it has the title, level, and told them if it was fiction or nonfiction. They also came with a sand timer. I modeled, and modeled some more, how the buddies would use the kit before putting it in my buddy read center.

During my MRTC class we discussed ways to help and when I thought about this kit, I realized that the students could do MORE with this kit and see GROWTH! So I made these!

I like the graphing so that the students can see themselves get better each time they read the same story. Since my school doesn't have colored ink, I plan on only making 2 copies of this and laminating it. They can use the dry erase marker to write on it.

Enjoy!

Tada!!

The blog is ready to go! Today when I get home, I will share some exciting owl themed documents I have been working on for my classroom! Can't wait!

Changed...

I have done some changing of the title! I hope to do some work soon to change the layout too! Wish me luck!

Wow it's been a while

I think this week I am going to take my time to update this blog! I originally wanted to have this blog to share with everyone whats new in our marriage life. I didn't do so great..... Plus, I want to write more about what is going on with me or challenges that I come to. So, this blog may be updated to become more of MY blog. I plan on sharing a new workout later today. Also, I would like to add a few educational items that I make or find for my teacher bloggers. Along with possibly some of the crafts I seem to try out! Trying to think of a cute name for my blog tho... hmmm... I will ponder this new title for today!

Happy Monday morning!
